Private Pilot — Airplane Single Engine (61.109)

  • Minimum solo age: 16 years
  • Private Pilot License: 17 years
  • Minimum 40 hours total flight time
  • 20 hours dual instruction
  • 10 hours solo flight
  • 3 hours cross-country training
  • 3 hours night training (100 NM XC + 10 takeoffs/landings)
  • 3 hours instrument training
  • 3 hours test prep within 2 months
  • 5 hours solo cross-country
  • 150 NM solo XC with 3 stops
  • 3 takeoffs/landings at a towered airport

Instrument Rating (61.109(d))

  • 50 hours cross-country PIC
  • 40 hours instrument time
  • 15 hours with instructor
  • 3 hours recent training (within 2 months)
  • 250 NM IFR cross-country
  • 3 different instrument approaches

Commercial Pilot Requirements (61.123)

  • Minimum age: 18
  • English proficiency required
  • Instructor endorsement for knowledge test
  • Pass FAA knowledge test
  • Pass FAA practical test
  • Hold private pilot certificate

High Performance Endorsement (61.31(f))

  • Aircraft over 200 HP
  • Ground and flight training required
  • Instructor proficiency sign-off
  • One-time logbook endorsement
